Jo Edwards founded The Star Project Theatre School in October 2008, to provide children with professional and fun training in all aspects of musical theatre. Jo teaches dance at Barnt Green and Solihull Star Project.

Jo started her love of dance and performance at 2 years old learning Ballet at The Maxine Grant School Of Dance, at 12 she continued her training with Birmingham Youth Dance till she was 16 eventually landing a scholarship place at Theatre School, her dream come true! Jo trained for 3 years at The Midlands Academy of Dance and Drama in which she graduated with a Distinction and I.D.T.A Freestyle Associate Teaching. After her graduate showcase at The Bloomsbury Theatre West End Jo has gone on to have a very successful career in all aspects of the business.


Jo continued her training at Pineapple Dance Studios, Covent Garden, London as she developed her professional career.


An experienced performer she has worked as dancer, actress, model and TV Presenter for many years.

Jo has also had vast experience as a teacher and choreographer working
for many different companies events and projects all over the UK.

Being particularly passionate about Musical Theatre Jo believes all
children should have the opportunity to express themselves through
dance, drama and singing.


Jo has recently landed the part of Columbia in The Rocky Horror Picture Show Tribute UK Tour for Spring 2015!

Sarah Carter-Manager, Drama Teacher

sarah pic Sarah is The Star Project Manager. Sarah also teaches Drama at The Star Project Barnt Green and Solihull.Sarah has been performing from the age of five years old. With early training in Tap, Ballet and Stage dance, she went on to gain many years experience in Musical Theatre as a performer, choreographer and director gaining over 10 years experience working with and coaching children from primary stages, through to further education.Sarah gained a BA Hons degree in Drama and Performance from The University of Wolverhampton, specialising in Physical Theatre, and Drama Teaching.Sarah has also worked as Production Manager for the esteemed Miss Earth Girls UK Grand Finals.After taking some well deserved time off at home after having her first child, Sarah returned to theatre in early 2014 starring in Jesus Christ Superstar for the second time, and a professional touring tribute of Rocky Horror, and is committed and excited about her future st The Star Project.

Natali is our Rising Stars Teacher at Barnt Green.

Natali is a professional Salsa dancer and has gained extensive skill and knowledge in her field. Natali has also performed in many musicals over the years and has worked as children’s entertainer in venues across the UK.

Natali furthered her teaching experience as a foreign languages teacher within a primary school, bringing her experience and understanding of the arts to The Star Project.Natali’s experience combined with her high energy approach to teaching makes her perfect for our Rising Stars Class, teaching our lively 4-6 year olds.

Louise is our Rising Stars Teacher at Droitwich.

Louise trained from an early age in Ballet, Rock and Roll and Jazz. Louise went on to gain an Advanced Diploma in Sports Science and Sport Therapy. With over fourteen years’ experience teaching classes and private lessons in trampolining and after school sports clubs, Louise will bring a fantastic high energy to our Rising Stars Class.Louise is very excited to be working with the younger children at The Star Project, and she looking forward to seeing them grow and develop whilst in her sessions.

Shelly-Marie Sumner – Teaching Assistant

Shelly is our Teaching Assistant at Solihull.

Shelley-Marie Sumner graduated with a Drama and Performance Degree at The University of Wolverhampton in 2012.She has performed as many lead roles in many amateur productions such as; Fantine in Les Miserables, Glinda in Wicked and Molly in Ghost to name a few.

Some of professional attributes include: Being part of the last casting group for a chance to be in the ensemble of Wicked the Musical’s UK tour in 2013; A short film for the BBC and also a TV advert for Nintendo’s game ‘SING IT’; Crowned Miss Black Country 2014; Placed 21st in the Finals of Miss England 2014.Shelley is currently a Self-Employed Instructor taking Dance and Drama clubs into local primary schools around the West Midlands whilst assisting in regular Musical Theatre classes for young children.

We are excited to have Shelley on board, as she brings her experience and fantastic energy to the team.

Gladstone joins us every Easter and Summer Holiday for our Performance Workshops being the very best pianist we have ever heard he brings musicality, top notch vocal coaching and energy to all our Workshop Rehearsals and Shows.Gladstone trained at the Birmingham Royal School of Music and since graduating he has worked in the Music industry touring from an early age and having T.V appearances with many artists, such as: Bobby Womack; Tracy Chapman; Jools Holland; Paul Carrack and; Will Young to name just a few.He has also co-written music for many television documentaries and last year worked on production for X-Factor. Gladstone has played piano and musically directed many theatre productions.Credits include: Starlight Express, Thoroughly Modern Millie, Cinderella, Big Times, Getting it Straight, Satin ‘N’ Steele, The Frozen Heart, They Call Her Natasha.Gladstone currently works as music producer/writer and is a highly respected vocal coach.

Kerry has been with The Star Project since it opened back in 2008 and although she is no longer with us on a weekly basis Kerry’s presence is always welcomed at every show! Kerry is our Stage Manager for our Big Summer Show’s held at The Artrix in July! Kerry runs the show like Superwoman and is fantastic at organisation and team and stage management. It is because of Kerry’s talents that our shows always run smoothly.Kerry recently became a full time primary school Teacher but enjoy her time in the Theatre as much as the classroom with the kids and we love it when she visits!

Taylor is the Dance Teacher at The Star Project Barnt Green.Taylor attended The Star Project for many years until she was 16, she spent one year training to be a teacher and assisting the main team and now she has been given a main tutor position. Taylor has choreographed for many recent shows and is becoming a fantastic young teacher and exceptional dancer.
