Our Mentorship Programme is designed for young people who are passionate about musical theatre, teaching, and the wider performing arts industry.

Eligibility: This programme is open exclusively to students who are currently enrolled at The Star Project and are aged 14 or above and is invite only. Whether you dream of becoming a performer, teacher, or creative practitioner behind the scenes, this programme offers a supportive, professional pathway to develop real-world skills, confidence, and industry knowledge.

This is more than a course – it’s an opportunity to learn, reflect, and grow alongside experienced industry professionals while gaining practical experience within The Star Project.

By taking part in our Mentorship Programme, you will:

  • Develop your skills as a future theatre practitioner or teacher

  • Learn through a structured mix of training, self-development, and hands-on experience

  • Gain a stronger understanding of how the performing arts industry works

  • Build essential professional skills for teaching and theatre practice

  • Increase your confidence, discipline, and ability to self-reflect

  • Finish the programme with a Certificate of Completion

  • Receive a personalised recommendation letter from The Star Project management

The Mentorship Programme combines guided learning with real, practical experience.

Workbook & Reflective Tasks

You will complete a workbook designed to develop professional skills, encourage reflection, and support your personal growth throughout the programme.

Practical Training

Mentors will assist within Star Project classes, gaining hands-on experience supporting sessions, observing teaching practice, and understanding how classes are run professionally.

Self-Development

You will be encouraged to broaden your industry knowledge by:

  • Watching live theatre

  • Reading and researching the industry

  • Attending workshops and training opportunities

1:1 Check-ins & Group Meetings

  • Regular mentoring check-ins with Jo to support your progress and goals

  • Group mentorship meetings and socials to connect, share experiences, and learn collaboratively

Throughout the programme, mentors gain valuable, transferable skills including:

  • CV writing and application support

  • Freelance invoicing and understanding self-employment

  • Musical theatre teacher training foundations

  • Understanding how to get into the performing arts industry

  • Professional headshots and personal branding

  • Working as a professional performer

As part of the Mentorship Programme, you will choose a special project to focus on throughout your time with us. This allows you to explore an area of the industry that excites you and gain deeper, practical experience.

Previous mentorship projects have included:

  • Social media content creation and marketing

  • Hair and make-up support

  • Costume support and design

  • Prop making

  • Backstage management

  • Lighting support

  • Sound support

  • Set creation

  • Assistant choreography

  • Assistant directing

  • Front of House support

Your project will be supported by the team and tailored to your interests and future goals.

Taking part in our Mentorship Programme offers a truly enriching experience:

  • Begin your teacher training before the age of 16, or without a formal teaching qualification or previous experience

  • Work closely with industry professionals who are committed to mentoring and supporting your development

  • Gain insight, guidance, and access to a growing professional network within the industry

  • Strengthen your CV with evidence of commitment, reflection, and hands-on experience

  • Demonstrate to future employers your positive attitude, willingness to learn, and dedication to professional growth

Upon successful completion, you will receive:

  • A full letter of recommendation from the company director

  • A certificate confirming successful completion of the programme

Future Opportunities

At the end of the Mentorship Programme, there may be opportunities to move into paid employment with The Star Project as a Junior Assistant, with clear scope to progress into further roles within the company.
