In 2023, The Star Project brought the magic of Matilda to life on the stage at the MAC, Birmingham. This was our MainStage show of the year, with each project performing their own production of Matilda—and every single student worked incredibly hard to bring Roald Dahl’s iconic story to life with energy, passion, and professionalism.
Through rehearsals, our students mastered choreography, harmonies, and staging while learning the importance of teamwork and discipline. Each project created their own version of Matilda, giving every child a chance to shine. From cheeky revolts against Miss Trunchbull to heartfelt scenes with Miss Honey, their hard work culminated in powerful performances that filled the MAC with laughter, energy, and pride.
At its heart, Matilda is about the power of standing up for what’s right, finding your voice, and believing that “even if you’re little, you can do a lot.” Through rehearsals and performances, our young cast explored themes such as:
Resilience and Courage – Matilda shows us how bravery can change your story, no matter your size or circumstances.
Friendship and Support – From Lavender to Miss Honey, we saw how kindness and teamwork create strength.
Rebellion Against Injustice – Students connected with the importance of standing up to bullies and using your voice to create positive change.
The Joy of Learning and Imagination – Just like Matilda, our performers celebrated creativity, curiosity, and the power of knowledge.
Each year, our Director’s Choice Awards recognise students who have gone above and beyond — not just in performance, but in effort, attitude, and personal growth. For Beauty and The Beast, we celebrated:
Toby E – Barnt Green
Lara W – Cofton Hackett
Maisie H – Droitwich
Samuel P – Worcester
These four young people embodied professionalism, kindness, and resilience throughout the process. Their commitment inspired everyone around them — well done!
